Accepting The Cycles of a Spiritual Life...
Every ancient system of wisdom teaches that human life unfolds in a succession of stages:
childhood, a period of education and learning a period of family life and meaningful work, and a period of contemplative practice.
Just as there is beauty to be found in the changing of the earth's seasons and an inner grace in honoring the cycle of life, our spiritual practice will be in balance when we can sense the
time that is appropriate for retreats and the time that is appropriate for travel, the time for settling down and planting roots and the time to have family and children.
honoring these cycles, we honor the natural law of the universe in the Tao or the dharma of our own lives. Change comes to our lives not only from shifts in our inner needs, but also
from the shifts in our external circumstances. First we must respect the changing cycles that life brings us and accept the inner tasks they bring. Each of life's stages has a spiritual dimension. Each contributes wisdom and experince that we will draw upon in our spiritual growth.
More often we don't get to choose. The great cycles of our life wash over us, presenting us with challenges and difficult rites of passage much bigger than our ideas of were we are going .But when we bring to them attention and respect , each of those task has a spirtual lesson in them. It may be a lesson of staying centered through great confusion. or a lesson of
developing a forgiving heart with someone who has caused us pain. a lesson of acceptance
or courage ,finding the strength of heart to stand our ground and live from our deepest values.. Difficult cycles are everyone's practice..
Meditation: sit and close your eyes. let yourself feel present and at ease. .Let go of any plans and feel the natural rhythm of your Breathing.
when you become quite , reflect back over your whole spiritual life. The cycles you have gone through , the situations that have taught you the most, the unexpected lessons. The times of solitude and community ,your trials, your guides your recent practice. The problems you encountered as well, their difficulties , their teachings.
Enjoy this reflection, seeing it as a story ,and adventure , appreciating its cycles with a sense of wonder and gratitude. Then feel yourself resting in this moment today with an openess
toward your life ahead of you : the next natural stages of your life . the incomplete areas
of your life , the demensions of spiritual practice you may be called upon to include.
As your own Spiritual guide , become aware of what situation might be beneficial to you . How can you best honor both your choices and your life situation and include them in
the opening of your heart and the cycles of your practice ? Sense how you can be true
to yourself and true to the dharma, the Tao that is unfolding in your life...

Be Thankful For !! Thought for Thanksgiving !! On GRATITUDE...
Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations
Beacause they give you opportunties for Improvement .
Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary
Because it means you've made a difference .
It is easy to be thankful for good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for there setbacks.
GRADTITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find away to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your Blessings.......
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

New Light on Forgivness !! Forgivness Week..
The healing can take place only in release , and you can release every person only when
that state of "GRACE ".. has come to you and you realize that you no longer need power.
Your oneness with " SPIRIT " is your assurance of Omniscience, Omnipotence , and Omnipresence, and because of that you can "RELEASE'" anybody and everybody.
This might be called forgiving, but is far better way of dealing with the whole subject of "Forgivness" than the traditional approach. To "Forgive", is difficult because forgivness has always implied the forgiving of a actual wrong done, which in some way one is supposed to forget. This is rather difficult to do. It is far easier to forgive if you can see that the reason that you think a wrong has been done to you is because you were expecting something from someone, and you had no right to expect anything from anybody. So in the begining it was your
fault; you brought it on yourself. You expected something of someone; therefore, that person did to you what you are having a hard time forgiving. If you had not expected anything of him,
however, you would have nothing now to " Forgive", and you and he would be at "Peace"....

Bringing the Awareness to the Movement of the Body "Meditation"
One aspect of meditation is to come back into the Here and Now.
Normally we are remembering the past or thinking about the future.Very seldom are we ever in the present moment. This technique will help you come into the present and will help
relaxation to happen.
Moving slowly, become aware of how you walk. Close your eyes and with your inner eye, see or sense or feel the foot moving, become aware of the heel, ball of the foot and the toes.
Move your awarness to the calves, feeling them as you move along. Now observe your knees and thighs. Become aware of your belly and solar plexus.Move your inner seeing/sensing or feeling to your chest. Tune into your breathing. Now include in your inner awarness your shoulders, your neck and head. Add to this awarness of your arms and hands.
This is one way to practice awarness. To start with, choose simple actions from the daily routine life, such as walking, eating, cooking and cleaning . Make it like a game. When you lose your awarness, don't be discouraged. It takes time to be able to be continually aware of your actions. Give yourself praise for having been aware even if it is just for a moment...

Listening "How to Increase awareness of your Inner Guide"
Lesson 3 ; "Listen with Assurance,
We are being directed even when we are unaware. We are where we are supposed to be and doing what we are suppose to be doing. "Why is this happening to me ?'' These judgements are the result of how we perceive the world about us. We are spending time asking "Spirit " to explain the insanity of the world that we ourselves create through our attitudes and beliefs... Therefore the question . "What is happening here?''' if asked with a desire to change the situation and not to know what lesson is involved, will bring no useful answers.
The ultimate answer to the question. "Why is this Happening ?" will always be. "Everything
is fine, despite what we see, feel. or think about it , and despite what others tell us." Spirit's "
will is always done, regardless or our awareness, or lack of awarness. of this reality.
It will eventually dawn on us that the only real request is . "Show us the blessing or the lesson You would have us learn". We then find that what was happening all along was for our happiness, and that we are being given chance after chance to learn our lessons...

Dropping the belly / Dropping into the belly
1. In a standing position , experience how we were taught to hold our bodies: the shoulders are pushed back, the chest is pushed out , the belly is "tucked in," and the buttocks are tightened. from this posture, try to take a good long, deep breath !! Of course, you can't !
2. Now close your eyes and simply "drop the belly". let it hang out !! Don't worry about what it looks like. Simply let it go.This dropping naturally helps the shoulders to fall and the buttocks to relax. And now you are able to take in a deep breath !!! You can use the Lamaze stroking method to help relax the belly. Just experience what the belly feels like when it isn't being held in.( Look at very small children. Their bellies are naturally in the relaxed position !!)
3. Once the belly is dropped, then drop into the belly- into what the Japanese call the "hara"- two inches below the navel. This area can be more easily accessed by placing both hands there, and gently pulsating it with your fingers.
4. One of the easiest ways to get the feeling of the hara, and to breathe through it, is to do some vigorous dancing. Then Stop !! Feel the breath in the belly... the energy flowing there. Feel the feet grounded on the floor.Experience the belly muscles, the shoulders, and then drop into the belly.
5. Then move into any activity...

Ten suggestions for Better "Listening ' Number "2"
Have no Investment In the answer to the Question..
"Listening " is difficult when we desire a special answer. We should realize that we do not know what is "best " for us, and accept what we are given. No one who already thinks he or she knows can truly ask.
Many of our " questions" do not really seek answers. They are simply calls for justification of what we already believe. When we have already decided what the answer should be ,how we will accept it, when it will occur, or how it is to affect us, we close our minds to receiving the "real" answer that is right for us.
" What you wish will hurt you ", we refuse to listen.. Instead, we must say in our heart, "I willingly accept the answer given to me as the truth, regardless of whether or not it pleases me right now." We must mean this in our heart because all true questions are asked there. What our lips
may say often means nothing, for our heart's desire is the true request.
What we want in our heart precedence over all other types of request...........

Be True ToYour Truth - The Truth Meditation { The art of learning to accept what Is }
This is a very simple meditation - just note that whatever you are doing is being done by truth. So, if you are walking it is truth walking ; if you are sleeping, it is truth sleeping ; if you are speaking, it is truth speaking ; if you are opening your eyes, it is truth opening your eyes; if you are being silent ,it is truth that is silent .
"Whatsoever the situation- if you are sad be sad ,if you are in a revengeful mood take your revenge, if you are jealous be jealous ,if you are angry be angry- never avoid the fact. You have to live it, that is a part of life's progress, growth, evolution. Those who avoid, remain immature. If you want to remain immature then go on avoiding , but remember , you are avoiding life itself.Whatsoever you are avoiding is not the point; the very avoiding is an
avoidance of life.
Confront life. Encounter life.Difficult moments will be there but one day you will see that those difficult moments gave you strength because you encountered them .They were meant to be .Those dififcult moments are hard when passing through them but later on you will see they have made you more integrated. With out them you would never have been centered ,grounded.
The old religions all over the world have been repressive: the new religion of the future is going to be expressive... Let expression be one of the most fundamental rules of your life.
Even if you have to suffer for it, suffer. You will never be a loser. That suffering will make you more and more capable of enjoying life, of rejoicing in life..

Ten Suggestion for better Listening !! this is the first One ...
1. We Need to be Still..We need to still our minds, to let let all thoughts but a desire to hear pass through our minds unresisted, to let go all our ideas of what we need , quiet our bodies' demands, and create a clean slate in our minds so that we can hear. It is helpful to put aside all concepts of who we are and what we believe----even such basic beliefs as what we call " good" or " bad ". Our minds are very powerful, and they create the world as we experince it.. As we still our minds, we come into harmony with our inner guide's
direction. We create a still, willing, receptive attutude that can be easily tuned to our highest good, eliminating all outside noise . In order to hear properly, we must have the desire to change our perception of the world..
We must accept responsibility for our current perception of the world as being the cause of our present experince and be willing to seek another way, to " Listen" to another interpretation and to see with new eyes..We have within us all that is necessary to do this, and it is available when we are willing to silence our
other efforts....

For Insomnia - gentle Gibberish or Glossolalia
Q: What can I do about Insomnia ?? Which alot of us seem to deal with..
METHOD: When before you go to sleep. Duration : 5-30 minutes....of gentle gibberish
Gibberish , also know as Glossolalia, is the meditation technique of speaking in nonsense
sounds and syllables. This is a method that will help to empty the mind quickly. In this meditation it is good to begin first with gentle gibberish.
Usually we go on thinking and remembering ,even in our sleep. Gibberish will help to throw out whatever noise and commotion is in the mind.It can be done before going to sleep or whenever it is needed .Just begin talking in nonsense sounds and syllables. One sound will come and then another .Be totally into it as you can . Soon you may find yourself speaking in all sorts of foreign languages !! This is okay, as long as it is not a language that you know.
Speaking a language that you know will not help to empty the mind, because you can get
caught in the thoughts and the stories. Speaking nonsense sounds and syllables lets you say
anything you like, without either you or anyone else being able to figure out what is being said. You might at first feel shy, inhibited or even guilty {what am I saying ?! } But as you keep doing this ,you will see that it does its own work. Your gestures and the totality you bring to the glossolalia helps release all the noise that is accumulated in the mind.
The fact is the mind has gotten into a habit of chattering and it no longer remebers how to turn it off. This method allows the mind's tension and stress to be released . And as you become emptier, it will be easier to fall asleep. At night, through dreams and thoughts, the mind is trying to empty itself for the next day, and it has to do this so you are ready to face life again. This method is creating a situation and an invitation for quietness to come and for sleep or perhaps deeper sleep to happen.

FOR DISTRACTIONS WHILE IN MEDITATION
Question: I like the meditation, but sometimes find it hard to sit still: itching all over and wanting to scratch.
Allow it - don't be worried about it . Scratch and just scratch very consciously .Move slowly.Don't do it. { with a rapid rubbing movement } Go very slowly, very consciously.
Then the meditation will not be disturbed at all. It is disturbed always by mechanical acts.
Meditation is never disturbed by activity .It is disturbed by mechanical activity .
For example there is something in scratching that you can do mechanically, not paying any attention to it. But pay total attention to it .If the body wants to sway a liitle, sway but very consciously. Bring all consciousness to it and then do it.Then there is no distraction .
So don't resist and don't fight with it , otherwise you will be concerned with it .A very ordinary itch can become something very big, out of all proportion. And the more you want to avoid it, the more it attracts you. Then it becomes almost impossible to avoid it and and you feel a defeat. You are distracted already because your mind is resisting fighting, and you have become divided in two. One part is trying to pull you to the itch, another part is pulling you away. Meditation is already lost.
So when the itch is there , take note that your hand wants a little attention. Take note and then very slowly go to it - and you will be surprised .Sometimes even by the time you have reached it , it has disappeared - because it was just a trick of the body to attract your attention. There was nothing .
The body works like a small child. It constantly attracts you : where are you going ? What are you doing? Meditation ? That feels like competition for the body and the body starts feeling jealous . You have been wed to the body for so long that when you start having a affair with meditation or something , the body starts feeling jealous. It is a women. It says ' I won't allow you this easily. Come here ! You have always been listening to me. Now what are you doing? Trying to escape from my domination, from my possessiveness ? I will show you .!
So it creates troubles- and those are stupid troubles, but they can become very irritating .
And the work is done - if you are fighting, you have been attracted already.
Your attention has been distracted. So don't fight with the body. There is no need.
When the body wants your attention, give it total attention but go very slowly, and meditatively .
And meditation is helping you , so continue doing it...

The Essentials of meditation
Mediation has a few essential things in it, whatever the method, but those few essentials are necessary in every method. The first is a relaxed state: no fight with the mind, no control of the mind, no concentration. Secound, just watch the relaxed awareness whatever is going on, with out any interference - just watching the mind, silently, without any judgement , evaluation.
These are the three things: Relaxation, watching, No Judgement, and slowly, slowly a great silence descends over you . All movement within you ceases. You are, but there is no sense of ' I am '- just a pure space . There are over one hundred and twelve methods of meditation.

WE Seem to Hear Two Voices
The beginning stages of listening often report hearing two" voices ". Inner voices are not any different from those we hear when we talk to ourselves -a sort of inner dialogue.
And we do talk to ourselves, wether we are aware of it or not. If we have wondered about an idea or a current event or wondered why something exists -that wondering in our
mind is our "voice". It's just our "voice". It may take on certain special characteristics if it will assist the listener. "Why ?" we ask ourselves. Aha! See, we do talk to ourselves .This is one way that truth comes to us- in the form of our own thoughts-the form that we can accept the easiest.Simply because it is always with us , waiting to be heard,we cannot miss it unless
we so choose. Since we are so use to talking to ourselves, taking both sides of an internal conversation,we seem to hear two voices. We seem to have split our minds into two parts. When we ask ourselves what to do about this or that, the answer that we hear is our "voice" speaking , there are some differences, however, and it is helpful to recognize them Our daily, busy minds see much to do and create many needs to be filled . However, our contemplative side sees order, joy, and harmony. This creative ,intuitive mind enjoys beauty and peace. As long as we feel in conflict, the experience of these two voices will continue. The one is" Prejudgment " as used here, is not the same as logic, but may include logic. As we become more aware of our "Insight " or Inner guide". the first voice, our " prejudgement".
becomes less dominant and more quiet .The less importance we give its tendency to judge in advance, the more we seek to remain open-minded. It's good to become an observer of our
thoughts- to see which thoughts are based on prejudgement, fear, prejudice and lack of trust -and which thoughts are trusting ,open, loving, and peaceful. If we dig deeply and honestly enough we will find that all thoughts are from one of these two sources. Then with our mind calm, we can " go inside and listen".When we are finished "listening".We may find that few of these things really need our attention. "Listening " gives perspective to our Lives. The "first"
voice always answered quckly with suggestions for things to do and much to think about .
While the fist voice seemed certain of what I should do. I noticed that it usually was rapid, forceful. worried and often fearful. When I listened to the first "voice" I never had a a feeling of peace or real confidence ,yet I did feel that I was in contacting someting beyond my intellectual reasoning-some type of inner knowledge. As I looked more closely at what it wanted me to do ,I could see that the basis for its decisions was often fear {limitation}- fear of missing out ,fear of being late,or fear of all types of things. As I thought about it , this negativity did not seem to be the type of advise that I would get from a peaceful and all -knowing source. Fortunatley, for m y peace of mind. I had learned gradually that this first voice was not always the one to "listen" to , and I calmly waited for a secound voice. I don't remember exactly what I heard ,but I was assured that I would be taken care of and that I should love everyone in the place, from those crowding in , to the seemingly uncaring attendants .I went outside , took some pictures of the beautiful scenery and returned ,not worried about waiting .In a very short time ,I was at the front of what I laughingly called a line ,and was taken care of while many others around me became angry about the confusion. When I "Listen" and then feel the calm and the love in my heart that "listening " shows me .I know that I will be taken care of ,and I am. I am at peace in a miraculous way, willing to to accept what is happening around me .Being taken care of ,I do not have to change anything or try to protect myself or provide for my needs .I do not pretend to know how all this works , and my logical mind cannot explain it. Of course , just loving or trying to love people , is not the whole answer. My loving is not enough : I must ask my guide what to do ,what is happening ,and how to see it. But my faith that I will be taken care of, coupled with "listening" to my Inner voice for direction and assurance ,does have the power to make me
feel peaceful and protected and to experience this harmony. but confidence that what is happening is for the best, no matter what my own "judgement " or my "first voice" may tell me. .This secound voice has been called the still, small voice the Voice for God , the inner guide the vision, Spirit , intution and many other names .But by whatever name it is called , it is available to all of us for direction and reassurance . Its use requires our desire to seek help from within ,as well as our willingness to be quite and listen. Namaste Janis
Loving Kindness Meditation
Today at my Yoga Class at Unity !! We practiced this simply Mediatation and was requested
for me to put this on my Blog !! Sit in a comfortable position. Set the Intention to practice this meditation with out judgement and a healthy dose of affection for yourself. Inhaling and Exhaling through your heart., visualize a time when you are really happy and experince that feeling now. Recite, silently, the following statements.
May I be filled with loving-kindness ; May I be peaceful ; May I be healthy ;
May I be happy.
Repeat the prayer over and over again for several minutes, feeling as though you're swaddled in loving-kindness. When you feel ready , subsitute the name of the person you wish to forgive for the word" I " Set the Intention to wrap this person in the love you now hold in your heart. Don't worry if this seems impossible at first. Be patient , and ever so gradually, you begin to feel a shift..
Remember anything that is not Love is fear. see that emotion as fear instead of hatred or anger may help you forgive transgressions a little easier... The following loving -kindness meditation will help with the process of easing your heart.. Namaste Janis Tate

Stop Mediation Technique and Calling to Oneself..2 short Practices..
This is a method which Gurdjief , Russian mystic used with his disciples. Sometime during the day, when the rememberance comes, just STOP !! Observe how the body is feeling , the sounds around you and any emotions or feelings or thoughts arising. Just observe them , there is no need to alter or change anything .
Just observe. This meditation brings you into the moment .Coming into the present is one of the benefits of Mediatation.
Meditation practice : Calling to Oneself : This mediatation is to bring you into the Moment.
In your Daily Life , from time to time stop and say : { Your Name }, Are you there ?""
Then close your eyes , feel where your body is and then feel your breath and when you are Present answer : " YES , I am here".
Since these are short practices. I thought two would be fun to practice out through the week..Love to hear your comments what came up for you !!

What Yoga can do for you !!
My story and how I got into Yoga . I actually got into Yoga about 16 years ago and it was just by accident , I guess that you can say, how the " Universe " works in mysterious ways I have always been very physical and athletic all my life. I actually had a very serious back surgery in my early twenty's . I never had back problems I use to do alot of back bends and forward flips in my younger school days also riding the horse all the time when I lived at home bike riding just the usual stuff when growing up and right around after my 21 "Birthday " I started to have terrible back ache actually the hip on my right side popped out and my right leg was going paralyized and I became to be in alot of pain which I suffered for about a year and finally had to go to the doctor which I try to avoid I just knew that I would end up in the hospital and sure enough working with the doctor for another year that is actually what took place . I had the surgery knowing that I could come out with a cast from the waist down or a brace which I was lucky to end up with the brace and also the possibility of being paralayzed which was happening in my right leg anyway and the plan was to scrape the bone of my right hip and use that to make 2 disk which we found that had been missing since birth in my lower lumbar spine .I also was informed from the MRI that there was a cap missing on a nerve that they thaught was the cause of my leg going numb. I decided to have the surgery because there really wasn't any alternatives not in case I wanted to stay on pain meds the rest of my life and no thank you !!
I had the surgery I struggled with alot of back aches and electric shots up and down my back and yet I had feeling back in my leg I still was in alot of discomfort but the doctor said I am still alot better off then before but from my perspective i could not really agree with that but he was right I did do alot of swimming for my back and still could alot of physical things i didn't allow it to cripple my life .I even got into Scuba diving he said as long as I would not lift over a 100 pounds so I manage to do that for about 5 years and dirt bike riding but still had back aches I couldn't sleep with my legs straight out and still the wierd shocks in my back and now about 12 years has passed by still going to the gym and swimming and then I came across a Yoga Class now I am around in my early forty's watching and thinking i wonder if this could help my back ???
So the next week I came into class and I really felt good after class especially my back ??
I made my mind up to sign up for a 6 week class this was the best thing Iever did in my
whole "Life". My back aches were less the longer I stayed with the "Yoga" the more
improvments came about I started sleeping better the pain was leaving the electric shocks that brought me straight up off the couch when I was sound a sleep were going away I could actually sleep with my legs straight out instead of my knees bent all night rocking back and forth and that has stopped also .
I fell in Love with "YOGA" I had been practicing now about 10 years and I started out just like everyone else first it was just once a week then 2 times then 3 and then it be came a
"Lifestyle" change there is not a day that goes by with out my "Personal Practice".
I also knew when I would not be practicing as faith fully my back would start in with the back ache and not sleeping well so I know the Yoga is what was fixing my back along with the deep breathing Excercises too.
I am now teaching Yoga and have been going on 6 years .I learned so much just not the Physical aspects the Spiritual aspects and Health and Diet and how the Body and Mind and Soul all work together ,there are so many styles of Yoga that can heal the mind and body you just have to find what works for you !! I go to "Workshops " that are Yoga and they are amazed especially "Teachers" about how I got into Yoga to see how strong I am and doing "Back bends" it is never to late to do someting good for yourself it is a "Lifestyle Change" and I feel I need to share this with others to know that "Yoga" can heal in so many ways !! I am also sending this on to a wonderful teacher that I recently had the oppurtunity to be on a Yoga Retreat in Louisianna back in May called a "Open Heart" with Mary Prafford.
She inspired me to write this to let others know what "Yoga " can do ,so if you can walk you can do Yoga !! and be Happy and pain free if not at least have it managable instead of "Suffering" I hope this can shed some light on someone who is looking to change there "life" and if you don't have any Issuses it is a great way of "Life" Namaste Janis
